  • Inspired by others...learning from experience of others is crucial to development

    Published 07/05/19

This comprehensive and useful review of the By Leaders, For Leaders May 1st conference was written brilliantly by  Gemma Singleton (@mrssingleton) from The Beacon School.

On Wednesday 1st May I attended the By leaders, for leaders held in London and coordinated by Will Smith. To be honest I really didn’t know what to expect… and I was pleasantly surprised. The variety of leaders sharing strategies that they have implemented along with the successful impact they have had was a privilege to listen to, but what was more impressive was the golden thread running through every presentation which linked to introducing change, simplicity, clarity and communication are crucial to its success but more importantly it must be underpinned by your core values and ethos which must be embodied throughout the school and in everything you do.

We were delighted to welcome 180+ colleagues to our third secondary conference at Regent Hall in London on Wednesday 1st May. The collaborative spirit was almost tangible and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positivity.

Delegates from all around the country travelled to join the By Leaders, For Leaders team and we thank those who were with us for making the morning so enjoyable. We also much thank our sponsors whose generous contributions made the event possible.

We were privileged to hear from such fantastic speakers: from David Weston presenting on 'the development of professionals’; hearing from on-the-ground school leaders Leann Swaine, Ben Parnell, Manny Botwe, Joe Ambrose, Sam Jones, and Kirsty Aaron about the brilliant work they are doing to improve the lives of thousands of young people; Jill Rowe delivering a powerful talk on ethos; Will Smith discussing the leadership of outcomes; to the inspirational Olympic Coach Jon Rudd sharing his experiences and words of wisdom on positivity and marginal gains - there was certainly something for everyone.

For more information about what will be highly informative and practical ‘Dive Deeper’ days, please do visit our calendar. We are delighted that leaders from Henbury School, Bushey Meads School, and Tytherington School are opening their doors for the By Leaders, for Leaders network.

We are really excited about our 2019-20 offer and we hope you will be able to join us. Further information about our plans and how to register (for free) can be found by clicking here. Remember to keep the 9th October, 28th January, and 7th May in your diary for our National Conferences!
